ACRO DANCE

The history of Acrobatic Dance stems back to the 1900’s where it was performed in Vaudeville. Later, becoming more popular by fusing the art of dance and athleticism of acrobatics. Acro Dance is a style of dance that combines dance technique & terminology with acrobatic tricks and skills. These acrobatic elements are blended seamlessly into choreography to create a unique and eye catching routine. The acrobatic skills taught in our program include flexibility, strength, balance, limbering, tumbling, basic contortion, and partner/group stunts & lifts. An Acro Dancer learns how to complete all of their skills on the hard stage without the advantage of a sprung floor (like gymnastics). Acro continues to trend upwards as more dancers are adding acrobatic technique and skills into their routines, especially competitively. Our AcroDance program follows the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus as well as fundamentals from ADTA. Our instructors place an essential focus on our dancers learning acrobatic skills safely and effectively. Acro Dance builds confident and well-rounded dancers because of the strength, flexibility, and coordination that these acrobatic skills demand. It provides dancers with body awareness and agility on and off the dance floor.

Dancers must be concurrently enrolled in either Ballet or Jazz
