TAP

Tap dance originated in America and initiated as a fusion of Irish and West African musical step-traditions. These include West African step dances, and Scottish, Irish, and English Jigs. Most of the syncopated rhythms and elements of tap dance were produced from African tribal dances and were used to keep their cultures alive. Tap is done by wearing special shoes that are equipped with metal taps on the toe and heel. It is a percussive style of dance and teaches the dancer to find specific rhythms and beats within the music. This style of dance really helps dancers develop an accuracy of musicality, rhythm, and timing. Tap has evolved over the years and can be seen in Broadway, Jazz, and Musical Theatre Productions but will always represent diversity and culture. Turning your feet into human piano keys, tap produces well-rounded dancers and allows them to feel the music in a specific way. We follow the Al Gilbert tap syllabus in our tap classes.
