If your dancer is looking for additional performance opportunities, then our competition dance teams are a perfect fit! Our competition teams are a community dance performance and competition company designed to heighten the performance experience for students at Act Two Studios. Students are encouraged to participate in workshops, conventions, competitions, and community performances to increase their exposure and love of dance.

We offer two competition dance teams - Encore Dance and Act2Crew. Encore Dance integrates ALL dance styles such as ballet, tap, jazz, modern/contemporary, etc. Act2Crew is hip-hop ONLY. These teams are open to any interested members of Act Two Studios who are ready to take their dance skills to the next level. We participate in dance competitions primarily based out of the Denver, CO area. There are also additional opportunities to travel further and dance at nationals!

As part of our last season, Encore Dancers attended a number of national workshops and four competitions as well as National Dance Week and community performances. The Encore Dancers organization sponsor a biennial Nutcracker performance by the San Diego Ballet, utilizing dancers from throughout the city.

Requirements

Interested Encore dancers must be age 5 or older, have taken a minimum of one year of dance, and must be enrolled in a minimum of three full season classes: ballet, jazz, and tap. These styles make up the core curriculum for dance students. These classes ensure the dancer is progressing in their entry field and conditions their bodies for the demands of competitive dance. Dancers must also be enrolled in a dance class for the style of dance for their assigned group. If they are assigned group dance outside of their currently enrolled classes, parents have the option to either enroll their dancer in the appropriate class or request a change to a different group. Interested Act2Crew members must be age 7 or older. Act2Crew members are required to take a minimum of 2 full season hip hop classes per week, one of which is a hip hop only technique class that does not participate in our recitals. Both Encore and Act2Crew attend required weekly strength and conditioning classes September through June. Dancers are grouped by age and experience. In August, interested dancers participate in a one week intensive “back to dance” camp at the studio. Fees for competition team may include but are not limited to costumes, competition/convention fees, choreography, travel & lodging. Contact us for more information.
